RAN (ラン), birth name Furuie Ran (古家蘭), is a Japanese singer and dancer under Japanese management company BMSG as a member of boy group MAZZEL, formed through documentary program MISSIONx2. He made his debut with the group in May 2023.
Before joining BMSG, Ran participated in audition show THE FIRST, where he was one of the 10 finalists, resulting in him getting a trainee contract with BMSG. He also took part in many dance competitions, won many titles and was a judge at some popping contests.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Ran started dancing at 5 years old because his parents saw him dancing to the music he listened on TV [1], beginning with street dance. At 9, he started popping.
Over the years, Ran competed in many dance competitions and won many titles (see Awards).
2021[]
In February, Ran auditioned for SKY-HI's THE FIRST and passed the Quality screening round in Fukuoka (conducted remotely) with "CITRUS" by Da-iCE (vocal performance) and "Let it Be" feat. Kid Fresino by Daichi Yamamoto (dance performance). He was ranked 1st out of 30 contestants.
In THE FIRST Artisism screening, Ran sang "WanteD! WanteD!" by Mrs. GREEN APPLE, and was placed in Team E (with Oyama Ten, Reiko Cadsawan, Misumi Akito, and Doki Raia) and assigned as the leader of the team to perform "Beautiful Now" by w-inds. At the end of the 3rd round, Ran ranked 7th, successfully continuing on to the training camp.
In THE FIRST training camp Creativity screening, Ran was placed in Team B with Junon, Shunsuke, Ryoki, and Ryuhei. The song they created in this round is titled "Good Days". Ran ranked 11th after this round.
In THE FIRST training camp Mock Professional screening, Ran was placed in Team "Move On" with Shota, Ryoki, Ten, Shunto, and Ryuhei. They performed Move On, and Ran ranked 10th after this round.
In THE FIRST training camp VS. Pro Artist screening, Ran performed To The First together with the remaining 10. He ranked 6th after this round and was confirmed as one of the 10 finalists.
After a one month break from the training camp, Ran and the other finalists for returned to the same location to prepare for the final round. Ran was placed in Team One, and performed Shining One with Leo, Ryoki, Reiko, and Shunto.
In THE FIRST Creative NEO screening, he chose to team up with Reiko to form the duo "RanRei". The song they created for this round is "Just FUN'ky", with "Adventure" by SKY-HI working as the instrumentals.
On August 13, he was not chosen to be a member of BE:FIRST but was offered a trainee contract under BMSG instead.
On August 30, he was announced to be the male lead of the musical "SING!!!", taking place from September 29 to October 3[2].
On October 18, it was announced that the musical "SING!!!" would add more dates in Hyogo (November 19-21) and Fukuoka (January 14 and 15, 2022), all starring Ran. [3]
On November 23, he took part in a special talk event for KKT Online Festival [4].
On November 25 and December 2 and 9, he participated in talk events for Tommy Hilfiger Japan with REIKO [5].
On November 26, it was announced that he would take part in the THE FIRST FINAL concert alongside his fellow THE FIRST contestants on January 29 and 30, 2022.
On December 8, the Music Video for Novel Core's THANKS, ALL MY TEARS, which Ran starred in, was released.
On December 17, it was announced that Ran would collaborate with apparel brand KANGOL REWARD in the design of a series of items. [6]
2022[]
On January 14 and 15, he performed in the musical "SING!!!".
On January 29 and 30, he performed in THE FIRST FINAL concert.
From March to October, he took part in the MISSIONx2 project as part of the pre-debut line up of MAZZEL.
On September 17 and 18 he performed at BMSG FES '22.
On September 18 he released New Chapter as a part of BMSG ALLSTARS.
On November 22, Ran was announced as one of the members of new BMSG group MAZZEL.
2023[]
On March 31, MAZZEL released their pre-debut single MISSION.
On May 17, MAZZEL released their debut single Vivid.
On September 18, he released The Moon in the WEST as part of BMSG WEST.
During the last two weekends in September, he performed at BMSG FES '23.
On October 18, MAZZEL released their second single Carnival.
2024[]
On March 20, MAZZEL released their first album Parade.
From July 15, he will be a regular cast member of the new Fuji TV series R4 STREET DANCE, Japan's first dance battle entertainment show.
Personal Life[]
Ran has a big brother, named Ikko, older by around 15 years, who works as a hairdresser. [7]
In March 2018, Ran graduated from Seizan Middle School.
In March 2021, Ran graduated from Chinzei High School, specializing in dance. Throughout his high school years he worked as a dance instructor at Dance Studio Sugar Hill [9].
- REIKO: he's close to fellow THE FIRST contestant REIKO, since they performed Beautiful Now together in the third round of the THE FIRST. REIKO considers RAN a brother with whom he can talk about anything, and they're close enough to fight. [11]

Ran's given name, "蘭", means "orchid". Since his parents did not know if Ran would be a girl or a boy, they asked Ran's grandfather for help, and he suggested the name. [12]
