Betrayal Game is a song by BE:FIRST. It is the second track in their second single Bye-Good-Bye and the track #7 in their first album BE:1. It was pre-released digitally on April 25, 2022.
It was the opening theme song for the YTV drama Tantei ga Hayasugiru ~Haru no Trick Gaeshi Matsuri~.

Background and Release

BE:FIRST promoting Betrayal Game

On April 4, the media broke the news that a new BE:FIRST song, "Betrayal Game", would be used as the opening theme of the YTV drama Tantei ga Hayasugiru ~Haru no Trick Gaeshi Matsuri~. Later that day, a Music Video Teaser was uploaded to BE:FIRST's YouTube channel.
The opportunity to provide the theme song was given to the group by the drama's producer, Nakama Tashihiko, who said,:

"We wanted to embed more momentum into the comedy/mystery world of Tantei ga Hayasugiru, which has become more powerful since the previous series, so we offered the theme song to BE:FIRST, who is one of the most active and most promising artists of the moment. Chikumagawa, played by Takito Kenichi, and Ichika, played by Hirose Alice, are always close to each other, but they are neither friends nor family. Despite the fact that they always speak ill of each other, they are bound together by a special bond that is inseparable. I asked for a theme song that stylishly expresses the relationship between these slightly off-the-wall buddies. When I heard the demo, I got goosebumps because of the impact of the song and the fact that it is so beautiful that it doesn't lose its charm no matter how many times I listen to it. I can't wait to hear the chemistry between the song and the drama! We hope you'll enjoy BE:FIRST's theme song along with the drama."

Betrayal Game is described as "a sexy dance number that shows a new side of BE:FIRST." Artist and songwriters eill and Miyata "Lefty" Ryo wrote the top line, SKY-HI wrote the lyrics, and A.G.O was in charge of the track.
On April 11, a shortened version of the song was aired on BE:FIRST's radio show SPARK where they also announced the song will have a digital release April 25 and the MV would premiere that day as well. Leading up to the 25th individual member teasers were released every two days.

Betrayal Game was chosen as the May ending theme of the Yomiuri TV programs "Sumomomomomomo！Peach CAFÉ", "CunE" and "Onchika".

On October 14, the Music Video won the Best R&B Video Award in the MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2022, and was therefore nominated for Video of the Year.

Trivia

• Betrayal Game is BE:FIRST's fourth release to win two Oricon digital ranking titles for a single work within the same week making them, once again, the first artist in history to do so.
• Due to scheduling, Ryoki did not have a pre-recording for "Betrayal Game" like the other members, and actually only had one recording session - which was the official vocal recording that gets released for the song. SKY-HI only told him afterwards that the recording was the official one, both members and fans think it was intentional that SKY-HI didn't tell him.
• Each one of the members has a distinct character with a particular backstory for the "Betrayal Game" MV. However, they were not disclosed as to leave room for the viewers to guess and come up with their own.
• The beginning scene of the "Betrayal Game" MV where the members switch places was going to be scrapped due to lack of time for filming.
